Back in 1998 Ice Cube stepped away from writing his usual "Friday" type fair and decided to direct a little film called "The Player's Club" I was lucky enough to get a bootleg of it, the spring it came out. It was definitely hilarious due in part to the casting of Jamie Foxx (who then had his WB sitcom and movies like "Booty Call" under his belt) as well as the late-great Bernie Mac as strip club owner Dollar Bill; not to mention a "Queen of Comedy" Adele Givens. It helped launch the career of Lisa-Raye; who would go on to star in a UPN sitcom and marry (and subsequently divorce) the chief minister of the Turks and Ciacos Islands. Lisa-Raye played a young mom who decides to strip to put herself through college and get a degree in Journalism.
It also features a pretty epic chick-fight scene between Lisa-Raye's character Diamond and her stripping arch-nemisis Ronnie (who btw I thought had the best blond weave and most awesome nails)
When you think about it this was kinda the "hood" version of "Showgirls" (minus the pool scene)
If you don't watch it we can't be friends and I might have to hit you up Ronnie style
